Giraffes and Poppies

I first fell in love with a Slow Loris at the Berlin Zoo where they have a very interesting exhibit where nocturnal animals are kept in the dark with some sort of special lighting so you can see them and they walk around very slowly and softly. These animals are so adorable with their huge eyes, sadly for them, because many are taken from the wild and kept as pets.

Slow lorises are a group of several species of nocturnal strepsirrhine primates which make up the genus Nycticebus and are found in Southeast Asia. This painting in watercolor and oil pastel was added to the primates group for Week 35. Go to 52 Weeks - Nature Painting Challenge for more info.

My head was also in the clouds this week when I concocted my whimsical watercolor 'Giraffes in the Poppies.'

Hope everyone had a wonderful week!

Happy Paint Party Friday.. Do check out Sunday Sketches too ....

  3. You have such talent, Emma and these are wonderful animals to paint. I agree that it is sad that animals are taken from their wild homes to live in captivity ... but worse, many animals are losing their homes to reckless development and profit motive raping of the lands and trees. The rich and powerful have no interest in saving the wildlife and they are, for the moment, in charge. Hope the people change that ...

  4. Andrea....I know it is very sad that habitats are being depleted. We all need to change the way we look at the world around us and try and live in balance with nature.

  12. Lovely paintings. I don't believe in caging animals for entertainment but do appreciate animal sanctuaries that rehabilitate and care for wild animals who have been hurt or abandoned. It is a shame to take these wild animals from their natural habitat. A friend's daughter has two sugar gliders and they just had two babies. I lectured her at first about it, since they also have a wild bird they bought at a pet store -- but at least I know that they are taking care of these special creatures. Sadly not everyone does. Thanks for stopping by my corner of the world. Have a great day.
